Key takeaways

  • Anglian Water appointed 20 firms to a £300m M&E framework running from 9 November to end of March 2035.
  • The £123m mechanical maintenance lot is the largest; the £102m projects and parcels lot has six winners.
  • Amentum, Galliford Try, M Group Water and Quartzelec won all four lots.
  • The framework covers the East of England and East Midlands through the AMP8 and AMP9 periods.
  • Lot totals: mechanical £123m, projects £102m, electrical £58m, DSEAR £18m.

Anglian Water has appointed 20 firms to a £300m framework that will keep its mechanical and electrical assets running until 2035. The deal starts on 9 November and runs to the end of March 2035, according to the utility's tender details.

The framework covers planned and reactive maintenance plus smaller capital projects across the East of England and East Midlands. It supports work through the AMP8 and AMP9 investment periods (the regulatory five-year asset management planning cycles used by English water companies).

How is the £300m split?

The money is divided across four lots:

  • Projects and parcels — £102m: the largest single lot, handling more complex and critical M&E packages. Six firms won places: Amentum, Galliford Try, M Group Water, Quartzelec, Ross-shire Engineering and Veolia (Dewatering and Maintenance Solutions).
  • Mechanical maintenance — £123m: the biggest pot by value, with 17 suppliers including Dodd Group (Eastern), FLI Water, GEL Engineering, Integrated Water Services, M & C Engineering (Newbourne), Panks Engineers, Sulzer Pumps Wastewater UK, Deritend Group, Unitspark and Waveney Pumps.
  • Electrical maintenance — £58m: 11 suppliers, among them Industrial Engineering & Installation Services, Quantum Controls and Xylem Water Solutions UK.
  • Specialist DSEAR services — £18m: seven firms covering Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations compliance, including C&P Engineering Services.

Four contractors swept all four lots: Amentum, Galliford Try, M Group Water and Quartzelec. Ross-shire Engineering and Veolia each hold three.

What does this change for suppliers?

It locks in a decade of steady M&E work for the winners. Galliford Try, best known for major building projects, gains a foothold in utility asset upkeep alongside specialists like Sulzer Pumps Wastewater UK and Xylem Water Solutions UK.

Smaller regional firms benefit too. Dodd Group (Eastern), GEL Engineering, Panks Engineers and Waveney Pumps each hold single-lot places on the mechanical maintenance roster, while C&P Engineering Services appears solely on the DSEAR lot.

The multi-lot structure spreads risk. A firm that loses higher-value project work can still win recurring maintenance revenue across a framework designed to span two full regulatory periods.

With AMP8 running from 2025 to 2030 and AMP9 following to 2035, the framework gives Anglian Water a stable supply chain for pumping stations, treatment works and electrical infrastructure through the next decade of its capital programme.
