Key takeaways

  • Roca's Avant toilet integrates the cistern within the bowl, eliminating external cisterns and flush plates
  • The flush relies on the Venturi effect; the base model needs no electricity, with an electric Avant-E for weak water pressure
  • Roca was founded in Spain in 1917 and operates in 170 countries
  • Avant includes dual flush, side-mounted buttons, Rimless Vortex technology and a Supraglaze hygiene finish

Spanish bathroom brand Roca has eliminated the toilet cistern — not hidden it behind a wall, eliminated it — with Avant, a toilet that integrates the cistern within the bowl itself.

For the Avant, Roca designed the cistern to sit within the bowl. The floor-standing model drops the external cistern entirely; the wall-hung version drops both the concealed cistern and the flush plate. What's left reads as porcelain, briefly.

How does the flush work without a cistern?

Physics, specifically the Venturi effect. Fluid pressure drops when liquid funnels from a larger pipe section into a smaller one. That pressure drop creates powerful suction in the tank, which drives the flush. No pumps, no wires — at least on the standard model.

Avant's base version runs without electricity. Buildings with weak water pressure or flow get the Avant-E, an electric variant suited to a wider range of plumbing systems. Two SKUs, one for each plumbing reality.

Because the working parts sit concealed within the toilet rather than the wall, Roca claims gains in space, aesthetics, installation and maintenance. The integrated form also makes bathrooms more adaptable for different interiors, according to the brand.

What else does the Avant package in?

The spec sheet runs longer than the silhouette suggests:

  • Dual-flush options
  • Side-mounted flush buttons, discreetly placed
  • Soft-close seat and cover
  • Roca Rimless Vortex flushing technology
  • A Supraglaze custom finish that mitigates the build-up of dirt, germs and residue

Roca says the toilet meets the highest hygiene standards and operates with splash-free, low-consumption flushing that reduces water use. The Supraglaze coating, by repelling residue, is pitched as making cleaning simpler and boosting hygiene further.

The company is candid about its aesthetic ambitions. "The removal of an external cistern or the flush plate further enhances the overall aesthetic of the bathroom, and its neutral, minimalist design blends seamlessly into any bathroom style, adding a touch of modernity," said Roca.

It also makes an acoustic claim. "Avant not only brings a modern aesthetic to the bathroom, but it also reduces flush noise, providing a quieter, more comfortable experience than conventional toilets," said Roca.

The result, per the brand: an efficient, minimalist toilet suited to compact spaces, easy to install and maintain.

Who is Roca?

Founded in Spain in 1917, Roca now operates in 170 countries, with a stated focus on sustainability and craftsmanship. Its catalogue spans toilets, sinks, hardware and faucets — design-forward, high-end territory.

The Avant follows other recent experiments. In April 2026 the company released modular bathroom furniture that adjusts to fit different scales, and in March 2024 it launched colourful taps designed with Inma Bermúdez in bright green, blue and yellow finishes. The pattern is consistent: strip out the visual clutter, or paint it deliberately.

Avant takes the first route. Whether plumbers embrace a cistern that lives inside the bowl, rather than behind the drywall they already know how to open, will decide how far the all-in-one format travels.
