Tallinn Design Festival / Disainiöö returns for its 21st edition from 28 September to 4 October 2026, anchored at Põhala Factory, a former industrial complex in northern Tallinn. The theme this year is "Future of Product Design".
The programme poses one fundamental question: in a world already filled with products, what should designers create next? Exhibitions and discussions across the festival examine how circular economy principles, new technologies, artificial intelligence, material innovation, longevity and changing consumption habits shape both the objects designers make and the systems behind them.
One central exhibition, "Well Made: What It Means Today", comes from London-based design studio Pearson Lloyd. The show has previously appeared at London Design Festival and 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen. It examines how concepts of quality, durability, material choice and production are changing in the 21st century.
The BRUNO Product Design Award exhibition presents a cross-section of contemporary Estonian product design. This year's nominees highlight responsible material use, practical problem-solving, long product lifecycles and combinations of traditional craftsmanship with new technologies.
On 1 October, the international Future of Product Design conference brings together designers and thinkers from Europe and the United States. Speakers include Luke Pearson of Pearson Lloyd, Jean-Louis Frechin, Ilkka Suppanen, Jenny Nordberg, Jaume Domènech, Srini R. Srinivasan, Hallgrim Sagen and Siim Karro.
The wider programme includes DOM – DESIGN IS IN FASHION, the Arts Thread Global Creative Graduate Show featuring 30 emerging designers, and Mauricio Zelaya's photography exhibition "Estonia, Elsewhere", alongside international exhibitions and installations.
Beyond Põhjala Factory, more than twenty satellite locations across Tallinn host exhibitions, talks, showroom events and experimental projects. The scope spans furniture, lighting, interiors, fashion, materials and contemporary design culture.
Events run daily, with the festival opening at 4:00 PM on 28 September and closing at 6:00 PM on 4 October. The venue address is Marati 5, Põhjala tehas.
By placing product design within a wider discussion about resources, technology and responsibility, Tallinn Design Festival 2026 asks not only what future products might look like, but why and how they should be created.
